Photo-manipulation

Digital image manipulation is an art that can bring an altogether different look to your design, logo or illustration project. A photo can well and truly lie through it's teeth when manipulated by an Adobe Photoshop specialist.

With 10 years of experience in the photographic printing industry behind him, Matthew has been performing high-end photo-manipulation since 1995. His experience in photography, colour correction, image manipulation and digital retouching enhances any project that incorporates photographic imagery.

Whether applied to a book jacket design, brochure, poster or website, digitally manipulated photography is an integral component of graphic design. When handled by a qualified and skilled professional, it will set your project apart from the competition.

NHNZ-Shark Fin Soup

"We need a tin of Shark Fin Soup" was the brief. You can't buy it off the shelf of course, who would?

After scouring the internet for reference material the simulated label was illustrated from scratch: the soup and shark meat was digitally painted; the Japanese calligraphy hand-drawn, scanned and applied; and textures of the tin and paper label were mimicked, right down to lighting effects. Once the composited 2D image was complete it was wrapped around a 3D model and the graphic was ready to be dropped into the NHNZ documentary. In the end, it just looked like a tin of Shark Fin Soup - and who would know the difference?

Otago Polytechnic Prospectus

In 2008 Third Eye Design creatively directed, designed, illustrated and typeset the Otago Polytechnic prospectus.

As well as being responsible for the document's graphic design and layout, Third Eye designed and art-directed the Hero Stories: full page photo-essays celebrating successful students and their achievements. This involved directing photo shoots with photographers Alan Dove and Lighthaus, manipulating the imagery in-house and building the series of photo-illustrations and cover graphics. The resulting images were used as posters, conference banners and display graphics.

Perreaux: Heart & Soul Poster

Perreaux amplifiers are renowned for their sheer power and their ability to deliver more performance and better reliability than imported counterparts. With a 30 year legacy like this they have become world famous.

For the launch of Perreaux's new éloquence range of amplifiers Third Eye and Webolution were called on to refresh their web presence, revitalise their promotional material and relaunch their marketing profile. For this 'Heart & Soul' poster, a human heart was fully illustrated and the 250i amplifier was photographed, image-manipulated and composited into the resulting x-ray image. The finished graphic was produced as an exclusive dealer-only limited edition A1 poster.
